June 2010

This promises to be a busy month, as the Candidate Filing Period kicked off on Wednesday, June 2, and ends at 5PM on Friday, June 11, at 5PM.

On Friday, June 4th, Bruce MacMahon filed papers at the Town Hall and entered the race to win back Brentwood’s House of Representative seat. He will be running against the incumbent, Democrat Don Petterson, who has held the seat the last four years. First, we need to show him strong support by turning out on Tuesday, September 14th to vote in the Primary, and following up in even greater numbers on the General election day on Tuesday, November 2nd. You can learn about Bruce’s positions, and how to help his campaign by visiting his web site http://www.bruceforstaterep.com.

On Wednesday, May 19th, two of the Republican candidates for the Governor of New Hampshire, Jack Kimball and Karen Testerman came to speak to the gathering at Hilton Auditorium. This was the third in the series, and was a great discussion on the issues facing New Hampshire and the country. Our final Candidate Forum will be pushed back until Wednesday, September 8th, and will feature Bruce MacMahon, Chris Sununu (Executive Council), Jack Barnes (NH Senate), and County Commissioners Maureen Burrows, Kate Pratt, and Don Stritch.

Come out and support the cause on Sunday, July 4th, as we march in the annual Brentwood Fourth of July Parade. The parade kicks off shortly after 10AM from the Swasey Central School on Middle Road. Also in July, on Saturday, July 17, the Brentwood Republican Committee, and the Rockingham County Republican Committee will be hosting a “Meet the Candidates” Picnic and Cookout at the Brentwood Recreation Area on Route 125. The event promises to be the biggest in town in years, as people from all over Rockingham County will come out for an old fashioned family cookout. The leading attraction promises to be the straw poll to see who is leading the various Primary races, as well as an early look at the 2012 Presidential race. Tickets will go on sale in June and are only $10/person, or $25/family. All of the candidates are expected to attend, providing another opportunity to hear from each hopeful candidate. The event will run from 11AM through to about 3PM.

April 2010

The Brentwood Republican Committee continues to grow, and generate interest in the upcoming mid-term elections. We encourage all residents to visit the “Election 2010” page of this site for a list of candidates running this year for US Senate, US Congress, New Hampshire Governor, and New Hampshire Executive Council. From there you can link to each of the candidates web site to learn more about them, and how to contact them. After the filing deadline in June, we will add information on the candidates for the New Hampshire House District 10 seat, and the New Hampshire Senate District 17 seat.

Last month, we hosted our first Candidate Forum. On Tuesday, March 9, 2010, three of the four Republican candidates for the United States Senate; Kelly Ayotte, Jim Bender, and Ovide Lamontagne were in the house and spoke to the crowd about why they are running for office, why they feel they should be elected, and answered questions posed by the moderator and residents, in a Town Hall style. There was a fair amount of trepidation in the days leading up to the forum, with it being our first big event. But it all came together, and all in attendance agreed it was a great night of politics at the local level.

Also in April, we activated our very own YouTube channel. There we will post interesting videos, and all of the Candidate forums. If you’d like to see what you missed at the Senate Forum, check it out at http://www.youtube/user/BrentwoodNHGOP. With the addition of a YouTube channel, to the existing Facebook and Twitter account, we are fully represented in the social media. You can follow us on Facebook, under Brentwood Republican Town Committee and on Twitter, at http://twitter.com/brentwoodnhgopfor all the latest information, events schedule and commentary. Be sure to bookmark all of our sites on your next surf of the web.

On Wednesday, April 21, we will be hosting the second Candidate Forum, this time, the candidates trying to unseat Carol Shea-Porter will be here. Confirmed are Peter Bearse, Bob Bestani, Rich Ashooh, and Frank Guinta. The format will be similar to the Senate Forum, with an added twist guaranteed to add some fire to the debate. Once again it will be held at the Hilton Auditorium in the Rockingham County Complex at 117 North Road, with a mixer starting at 6:30PM, and the Forum kicks off around 7PM.

On Wednesday, May 19th, we will have the Republican candidates for the Governor of New Hampshire, and finally in June, we will invite the local Republican candidates for the NH House, Senate, and Executive Council to speak with us.

In July, the Brentwood Republican Committee, in conjunction with the Rockingham County Republican Committee will be hosting a Family Picnic at the Brentwood Recreation Area on Route 125. The event promises to be the biggest in town in years, as people from all over Rockingham County will come out for an old fashioned family cookout, and a straw poll for each ticket holder to vote for the candidate of their choice. Tickets will go on sale in June, and will likely be the same as last year, $10/person, and $25/family. All of the candidates are expected to attend, providing another opportunity to hear from each hopeful candidate. The event will be held on Saturday, July 17, and will run from 11AM through to about 3PM.

Hope to see you at our next froum, on Wednesday, April 21st!
